Gator Anime Meeting Summary: Spooky Scary Halloween Edition!!

Good afternoon, guys, gals, ghosts, and ghouls!

Last Thursday, we held our annual Gator Anime Halloween celebration. Festivities were held, food was gorged upon and spooky scary anime was watched!
Our lovely spread included tons of pizza, cupcakes, fudge, and cookies of all varieties. We ran out of plates easily within 30 seconds of the meeting starting, though!
Our annual costume contest concluded with Leslie Blakely, dressed as Korra from The Legend of Korra, taking 1st prize!
For our spooky shows, we watched Shiki, Devil May Cry, Soul Eater, and of course, Ghost Stories!!
All in all, the Halloween party was lots of fun! If you’d like to check out pictures of the event, come by our Facebook group!

Meeting Summary 4/21/16

Hello Everybody!

Last Thursday was our final meeting of the semester! We had an unofficial get together starting around 11 AM with some video games brought in by the members and officers. Then, at 7 PM, we put on some rad anime. We watched episodes from some of our half-season runner ups to the anime voting from the week before, Mononoke and Erased. We also watched a few OVAs from our two half-season shows this semester, Hozuki no Reitetsu and One-Punch Man. There was a nice spread of goodies to eat as well!

Being it the last meeting of the Spring semester, this will be the last of my posts as Media Coordinator of the club. It has been a good year, and I’m glad I was able to serve the club in this way. Even though I wasn’t able to attend most of the meetings this semester, I still felt involved being able to write about the meetings and participate in discussions on the Facebook page. Thanks to everyone who read the summaries! 🙂

Also, a shout out to our graduating seniors! These are some of the people who have been in Gator Anime since their first years in college and have made it what it is today. You all rock!

Oh, and look out on the Facebook page for announcements about Summer meetings! Meetings during the Summer are quite free-form and fun. If you are in town, make sure to drop on by!

See you all later!

Meeting Summary – 4/14/16

Hello Gator Anime!

Last week’s meeting was our last official meeting of the semester! Make sure you check out the Facebook page for info on our upcoming “unofficial” meeting (which will truly be the last meeting of the spring semester)

We opened up with voting for the next fall semester’s anime. There were some close calls, but in the end, the victors were Anohana (Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai or Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day) and Gekkan Shojou Nozaki-kun for our two half seasons and Shin Sekai Yori (or From the New World) for our full season

For member’s choice, we watched some of Osamu Tezuka’s  famous and historic Astro Boy. We also watched the final episodes 11-13 of Hozuki no Reitetsu and the final episode 13 of Katanagatari

See you around!

Astro Boy!

Meeting Summary – 4/7/16

Hey there Gator Anime!

Last meeting, we had our elections for club officer positions! The competition was fierce, and we had a record number of people running for positions this year. The results for the 2016-2017 officers are as follows:

President: Max Dunevitz
Vice President: Lucas Azoto
Media Coordinator: Harrison Tancer
Secretary: Jo Furmanek
Historian: Rebecca Hammell
Treasurer: Scott Lathikhone Rattana

After elections, we watched Servant x Service for member’s choice. We also watched episodes 9 and 10 of Hozuki no Reitetsu and Episode 11 of Katanagatari

Also in recent news, our Lake Wauburg trip was last Saturday! There was an amazing turnout, great food, and excellent weather. All-in-all, it was a wonderful trip

Lastly, make sure to vote in the Facebook polls for what anime we will watch come the Fall semester! The polls will close by this Thursday, at which time we will vote as a club on the top contestants. Here are the links you need:

Meeting Summary – 3/31/16

Hello everybody!

Last meeting was good fun as always 🙂 We opened up with a really bad panel. That is, a really bad anime review panel! From what I heard, shows were torn apart, feelings were crushed, friendships were ruined… a lot of fun basically. For member’s choice, we watched Saint☆Oniisan, the only anime that has more religious connotations that Evangelion and Death Parade combined

After our break, we watched episodes 7 and 8 of Hozuki no Reitetsu and episode 10 of Katanagatari

Also, applications for officer positions closed last Thursday at 11 PM! Elections will be at the forthcoming meeting. Watch the Facebook Page for updates and more info!

Max Dunevitz, signing out

Meeting Summary – 2/25/16

Hey Gator Anime!

Last meeting went splendidly. We opened with a panel by member Savannah Hardiman on The World Ends with You. For Member’s Choice, we watched A Certain Scientific Railgun S. We watched episode 6 of Katanagatari and the season finale of One Punch Man.

We won’t be meeting next week because of Spring Break, but the week after, March 10th, we will be discussing Gator Anime Elections, and March 17th will be our White Day celebration! Stay tuned to the Facebook page for more information 🙂

Meeting Summary – 2/18/14

Happy Valentines!

Well, belated Valentines…

Last meeting was our Valentines Day celebration! There were tons of sweets, including some home baked goodies (Chocolate truffles, brownies, and apple cookies among them). We took a break from our regularly scheduled programming to watch some love/Valentine’s-themed anime, like School Rumble, Five Centimeters Per Second, and Daily Lives of High School Boys. We also watched some special Valentines episodes of Gintama and Space Dandy.

Look out for our special White Day meeting on March 17th! In Japan, Valentines is traditionally women giving gifts and chocolate to men whereas White Day is a holiday in which men give gifts and chocolate to the women in return. You can read more about it here

Also last week was SwampCon! The convention was a huge success with over 3000 people in attendance. The staff had been working their butts off for months before the Con and it was great to see it all pay off 🙂

Anyway, this is Max Dunevitz, Gator Anime Media Coordinator Extraordinaire, signing off. Stay lovely, everybody

Meeting Summary – 2/4/16

Hey there!

SwampCon is next Weekend!! Make sure you check out all of our events and pre-register online at swampcon.org!

Last meeting, we opened up with a panel called So Bad, it’s Good in which members Scott and Calvin explained the art form that is Bad Anime and attempted to prove the feasibility of the bullet-dodging abilities of the female breasts (from High School of the Dead).

For Members’ Choice, we watched Bento (or Ben-To, but not Ben Ten). And after our break, we watched episodes 7 and 8 of One Punch Man and episode 4 of Katanagatari.

Be on the lookout on the Facebook page for our Valentine’s Party! It will be Thursday, February 18th at the meeting.

Ben-To (not sure if this image is an accurate depiction of the anime, but whatever)

Meeting Summary – 1/28/16

Hello hello!

So, it’s been quite a while since the last meeting summary. My apologies. You see, I came down with a nasty computer virus and just couldn’t type any of these up. Hopefully they will be more regular for the rest of the semester!

Last meeting, we had a grand game of Anime Bingo, brought by member Chelsea Lawrence! For member’s choice, we watched Kantai Collection, which to me–although I wasn’t there for it–looks both very interesting and very questionable.

After a short break, we watched episodes 5 and 6 of One Punch Man, in which we question whether Saitama really isn’t a monster, and Episode 3 of Katanagatari.

All in all, it was a great meeting. Although CSE 220 isn’t our greatest den, we still manage to have fun every time 🙂
